| Blue Ribbon Ride
5th April, 2009
The first Annual "Blue Ribbon" or "Prostate Cancer Awareness Ride" was held on Sunday the 5th of April.
Nineteen bikes turned up at Richmond Maccas to take part in the event, which was good to see for the first Blue Ribbon ride. The Saturday before Carol had a working bee at our place to make blue vests for all the riders and pillions and a BIG thankyou must go to the ladies that came and spent all day making 25 vests, Anne Birchall, Catherine Linnane,Robyn Cullen, Helen Gronow and a friend of ours from up north that just happened to come down for the weekend Pam, without these ladies efforts we wouldn't have looked as good as we did travelling down the road, we made quite an entrance at the Marconi Club car park where the ride was to leave from, someone said look at the Smurffs (we stood out from the crowd).
There looked to be around two to three hundred bikes in the ride which left at ten and headed to Picton via Camden and The Oaks, our group was lead by Rick and he managed to keep us all together which was no mean feat with so many other bikes. The first stop was at The Oakes where there was time for refreshments and a nata, then off to Picton and the Picton Bolo for more nattering and a light beer or two where some observant person noticed that I was wearing a club shirt with my name spelt wrong on it, you see you don't spell Ron with the letters C-A-R-O-L, lucky I had my club badge in the bike to cover my mistake.
After Picton we headed back to the Marconi Club for lunch, awards and prizes and the official presentation hosted by Jonsey from WSFM 101.7. Members
Graeme & Chris Bright were lucky enough to win two prizes in the raffle, both prizes were four litres of oil, so that should save them a quid on the next couple of bike services, and Carol bought a couple of tickets, one of which won me a new bike cover.
Members paid a five dollar rental fee for the privilege of wearing the blue vest, the money raised was used to pay back Julie ($50) who bought the material and the remainder was given as a donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation ($75)
After the proceedings were over we had several group photos around the fountain in front of the club before heading off home. Another very enjoyable day had by all I'm sure.
